Description of Learning Environment for Students:
The corporate world requires team players, and the Fisher College emphasizes group projects and consensus building.

Your class will be divided into four cohort groups, and each quarter of the first year of the program, your cohort will be paired with another. Within the cohort you will also be a member of a small, diverse work team with which you will work throughout the first year.

Our curriculum during the first year rests on two principles: a strong analytical foundation in key functional areas and an unusual academic flexibility that enables you to tailor your program to your goals and interests.

The Full-Time MBA Program is a 98-quarter-hour program. The 42-hour core is supplemented by 56 elective hours, which include a major area, an optional minor area, and free electives. Students complete their 56 elective hours during the second year of the program by completing four courses each quarter.

Research Exposure
As members of a premier research university, Fisher professors develop and prove theories to help corporate leaders makes more effective decisions. Faculty members are engaged in cutting-edge research, such as that being performed by Professor of Finance, G. Andrew Karolyi.

Professor Karolyi is an internationally-known scholar whose research focuses on investing strategies in international capital markets. He is investigating the motives of companies from around the world in targeting U.S. investors by way of cross-listing their shares on major U.S. exchanges, over-the-counter and private placement markets. He is actively engaged as an advisor and consultant for the depositary banks that facilitate these international cross-listings and, most recently, for the New York Stock Exchange in promoting them.

Fisher faculty members regularly integrate their findings into new course offerings and reassess the MBA program to ensure its relevance to current management issues. MBA students benefit by being among the first to learn of faculty discoveries in their courses and to study first hand with the creators of new principles for business practice.

Research and Business Partnership Groups
Because management challenges overlap functional areas, the college supports eight research groups that offer its corporate partners the benefit of faculty expertise across all disciplines. While useful to companies, the collaborations also provide real-world examples of current business issues for faculty to incorporate into the classroom. MBA students benefit from the opportunity to participate in research group projects and interact with involved faculty and corporate executives.
