Description of Learning Environment for Students:
The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School builds on a tradition of business education at Johns Hopkins University dating back to 1916. Johns Hopkins has offered graduate degrees in business since the 1960s-expanding over time to include the MBA and Master of Science degrees in the specialized business disciplines of finance, information technology, management, marketing, organization development, and real estate.

Graduates of the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School consistently find that their degrees provide the professional skills and contacts they need to open doors, advance their careers, and contribute to the well-being of the communities in which they live and work. Highly skilled in multiple disciplines, alumni are recruited internationally by corporations, government agencies, nonprofits, and health care systems, and advance quickly to senior leadership positions.

A distinctive aspect of a Carey Business School education is the opportunity to combine a business education with joint or dual degrees from other world-renowned schools at Johns Hopkins, including Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Engineering, and Arts and Sciences.

Rigorous Applied Learning
Based on the Johns Hopkins model of combining theory and practice, innovative programs integrate project-based business world experiences into each student's education. A dynamic faculty blends prominent researchers with business practitioners drawn from leading corporate, government, and nonprofit institutions, such as Bank of America, Fannie Mae, NASDAQ, Northrop Grumman, and the World Wildlife Fund.

A hallmark of a Carey Business School education is the Capstone experience, which creates an intensive, hands-on educational opportunity that puts classroom learning to the test-and produces the best-qualified business leaders for the workforce of the 21st century. Paired with leading businesses - such as Legg Mason, Black & Decker, Upper Chesapeake Health System, and Environmental Elements Corporation - Capstone student teams prepare extensive business plans to address current challenges and opportunities, and then defend the plans before the organization's leadership.
