Description of Learning Environment for Students:
The distinguishing factors of the BC MBA are a rigorous, challenging curriculum and an extraordinary spirit of community. We recognize each student's unique background, skill set, and lifelong aspirations. We limit class sizes so that from the admissions process through the design of each student's own course of study to the career services function, we can deliver truly customized attention. The professional and personal bonds developed through this close-knit immersion into the program last a lifetime and the developing network is consistently nurtured by the Carroll School and its alumni for the continued success of its members.

Our innovative curriculum combines carefully sequenced courses with real-time experiential learning. Faculty select instructional methods and materials best suited to each area of study, but teaching and learning are always compelling. Students are active participants in the classroom. On any given day, they will grapple with concepts, sharpen their skills, explore alternative points of view, and productively challenge their classmates' assumptions.

We nurture our students' ability to be persuasive advocates, but place equal value on incorporating the ideas of others. We encourage the kind of innovative thinking and collaborative problem solving that yield creative solutions and breakthrough results. To that end, we provide team-based experiences that teach students to identify and draw on one another's strengths, to achieve more as a group than would be possible through individual effort.

The program's structure, with its overarching Management Practice sequence (MP), ensures the integration of concepts and experiential learning across courses and semesters. Learning and skill development are contextual, cumulative, and reinforcing.

Students further enhance their expertise through the selection from an array of professional specializations and have an opportunity to develop a deep, thorough knowledge within their specialization of choice.

The Carroll School of Management prepares students for a wide range of management careers in the private and public sectors worldwide. We offer a distinctive variety of MBA program formats including:
  • A two-year, Full-Time MBA Program, which combines a solid foundation of business knowledge and skills with hands-on experiential learning.
  • An Evening MBA Program for those who choose to continue in their careers while preparing for future advancement.
  • Dual-Degree programs, which allow students to combine a graduate business management education (MBA) with advanced study in a selected discipline.
Faculty:
The process and products of research are essential elements in Boston College's intellectual community and the Carroll School has a long tradition of combining the best teaching with groundbreaking research.

We have over 100 scholars, researchers, and teachers who consistently contribute to leading management journals and publications in every discipline of business. Each faculty member, from department chairpersons to non-tenured faculty, is dedicated to skillfully educating both undergraduate and graduate students in addition to pursuing their research initiatives. Examples include:
  • A recent analysis of all the articles published in leading finance journals in the last 50 years found that five of the Carroll School's finance faculty rank among the top 250 of the world's finance researchers during that period.
  • Professor G. Peter Wilson, past president of the American Accounting Association (AAA), is the recipient of AAA's 2005 Outstanding Accounting Educator Award.
  • Professor Jean Bartunek is former president of the Academy of Management.
  • Associate Professor John Gallaugher has been recognized for his excellence in teaching in BusinessWeek Guide to Best Business Schools.
Faculty are also regularly called upon to comment on current business topics in national media; to contribute to discussions at the highest levels of government; and to consult for some of the largest companies and nonprofit organizations in the world today.
